Find a USB key

Submitted by on Friday, 7 October 2011No Comment

This trick works in Windows XP, Windows Vista 32/64 bit and 32/64 bit Windows 7.

Sometimes when you plug a USB drive on your PC, although it is recognized by Windows (the eject icon is present in the notification area), it does not appear in My Computer or Computer. It is impossible to browse the contents. Here’s how to fix it.

  • Right click on My Computer or Computer, then Manage or Start menu, choose Run then in the new window, type compmgmt.msc.
  • On the left side of the new window, click the Disk Management area.
  • On the right side, right click on your USB drive and select Explore from the menu.

Normally your key reappeared in My Computer or Computer.
