The Oasis (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) is to raise the status of MQTT standard. This management protocol messages (MQTT means Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) appears as one of the future bases of M2M and the Internet of Things. The GSM Association (GSMA) estimates that 15 billion of communicating objects will be in circulation in 2020. A condition that deployments can be based on standards, ensuring interoperability of solutions and lower costs.
MQTT was developed by IBM and Eurotech Italian before being proposed to the Oasis. The protocol is already used in health (especially on pacemakers) or in the oil industry (to monitor pipelines). Seen by the Oasis as a protocol for publishing and subscription lightweight, reliable and “suitable for contexts M2M and Internet of Things,” MQTT sees his destiny taken over by a technical committee of the organization, where alongside Cisco, Red Hat, Software AG, Tibco and, of course, IBM and Eurotech.
In France, in connection with the proposed deployment of smart meters in particular GrDF, a working group of AFNOR (E17Z) focuses in part on similar topics.
